Growing pastors on the Northern Plains

A program to reverse the decline in ELCA pastoral vacancies on the Northern Plains—as high as 12 percent in the South Dakota Synod—reported yesterday in the Sioux Falls Argus Leader —will involve the synod, Augustana College and North American Baptist Seminary.

This excerpt outlines what is planned for the new Luther House of Study:
Streamline the acquiring of a seminary degree for lay people who want to enter the ministry but face financial and geographic restraints;

Cooperate with Lutheran Outdoors to support a clergy renewal center to revitalize and retrain current pastors;

Enhance Augustana's undergraduate program with additional courses addressing the Lutheran heritage. That also will offer more support to students considering seminary and future lay leaders.
