S.D. bishop opposes execution

News Channel 4, KTIV-TV, reported yesterday on efforts of the death penalty opponents urging S.D. Gov. Rounds to intervene in the pending execution of Elijah Page, which if carried out as planned the week after next, would be the first execution in that state in 59 years.

An excerpt:

Andrea DeGroot-Nesdahl, South Dakota's bishop for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, says Lutherans also are being urged to write the governor—as she has.

DeGroot-Nesdahl says the ELCA—through its congregation inside the prison—asked Page to invoke his appeal options—but Page has requested to be executed.
