Gay Christians: Symbols of God's new creation

The question of homosexuality in relation to God's creation is best discussed in terms of baptismal living. It is an issue of our life in Christ as a new creation.

As a parish pastor, I frequently ask couples preparing for marriage to reflect on what Christian marriage is for. They usually find this question strange. I ask them to read the Old Testament prophet Hosea and send them home. When we pick up the discussion, they usually have found Hosea a "downer" and wonder if I foresee the potential of infidelity in their relationship.

After assurance that my motives weren't to suggest their incompatibility, we move on to speak of the vulnerability of trusting another and of the pain of trust betrayed as described in Hosea.
