In an act of repentance, the United Methodist Church donated $50,000 to the National Park Service for a future educational center at the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site, near Eads, Colo.
The church made the donation because a Methodist minister led a November 1864 massacre of 165 Cheyenne and Arapaho people on the site.
After the massacre, Cheyennes and Arapahos abandoned all claims to what was then the Territory of Colorado
