Gourmet green eggs and ham, eight hours of nonstop Dr. Seuss readings, and the Cat in the Hat character made an appearance Feb. 26 at the annual Seuss-a-thon, sponsored by the Center for Children's Literature at Carthage College, Kenosha, Wis., and the Student Wisconsin Education Association. The fundraiser helps nonprofits provide each baby born in the area with a quality children's book. Twelve previous Seuss-a-thons have given out more than 10,000 books.
Grand View University, Des Moines, Iowa, won 2010 Radio Station of the Year and 2010 Newspaper of the Year at the Iowa College Media Awards Feb. 3. The college's KDPS radio station won 17 of 21 awards, including "Best Show" and "Best Air Personality" for the fifth year in a row.
Green became the new black at Thiel College, Greenville, Pa., as outfits constructed entirely of recyclable materials replaced the little black dress at the "Wear It Out" competition March 24. The runway models and designers — Thiel students, faculty members and friends — received awards for creative use of soda cans, candy wrappers and more. The annual competition is part of RecycleMania, a nationwide effort.
