More than 15,000 Lutherans, Roman Catholics and other Christians took part in a three-hour protest Feb. 21 in Bangalore, India, to "condemn and reject" what they called a biased inquiry into attacks on churches in Karnataka state (236 incidents in three years).
The inquiry absolved Hindu groups, police and the ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party of the attacks. "No one is held responsible ... the commission has given a solemn burial to the truth.
We condemn and reject this report," said Roman Catholic Archbishop Bernard Moras of Bangalore.
The leaders called for an "impartial and independent inquiry" by the federal government.
