North American leaders strongly affirmed their desire to strengthen the Lutheran World Federation at a Feb. 11-12 gathering in Chicago.
Members, including the ELCA, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and the Toronto-based Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church Abroad, committed to participating more fully in the life of the LWF and recognizing "our mutual giftedness and mutual poverty, so that we receive the witness, gifts, prayers and expertise from the [global Lutheran] communion."
The leaders also agreed to help communicate LWF decisions and actions within each North American church body and monitor reception of those actions.
