ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark S. Hanson said he was "dismayed" by the U.S. government's Feb. 18 veto of a U.N. Security Council resolution that asked Israel to stop illegal construction of settlements on Palestinian land.
Hanson and 12 other leaders of Christian churches and groups had urged the Obama administration to support the resolution.
The veto could "possibly strengthen extremist voices in the region who call for a less peaceful resolution of these issues," Hanson said.
