Christians arrested in Iran

Iran arrested 25 evangelical Christians and detained or sought to detain more than 60 others on Christmas Day.

According to Christian Solidarity Worldwide, a religious freedom group, it was the second year that Iranian security forces targeted Christians over the holiday.

At presstime, 11 of those arrested had been released.

Earlier, in January 2010, the governor of Tehran, Morteza Tamadon, compared Christian evangelical leaders to the Taliban, telling the IRNA news agency that "just like the Taliban ... who have inserted themselves into Islam like a parasite, they have crafted a movement with Britain's backing in the name of Christianity."
