Q: How can I encourage my 7-year-old to sing in church? She's got a nice voice and sings along with the radio in the car, but she clams up in the pew.
A: Since your child is already comfortable singing on the road, try joining along with her. Learn the lyrics to some of her favorite songs and sing those tunes as a duet.
The experience could help your daughter feel more comfortable about singing in church — especially if she's seated beside you.
You also might borrow or buy an album of popular hymns to sing along with when you're driving.
Becoming more familiar with hymn tunes and lyrics can help boost a child's confidence to sing along with the congregation.
