Arndts Lutheran Church, Easton, Pa., has a senior program called "Open Arms Senior Connection" two days a week that involves 40 elderly from the community and some 20 volunteers.
Parishioners raised money from grants and fundraisers to renovate their space to accommodate the new program.
Participants enjoy lectures, travel stories, a kitchen band, movies, Wii bowling, and the usual fare of games, puzzles and cards.
"Mostly people just enjoy the social time and the caring," said Nancy L. Walters, a steering committee member. "We stay in touch with any folks who are experiencing temporary illnesses, surgery or setbacks."
It's a low-budget program that only asks for donations from participants if they're able.
