Neighbors and community members of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia gather for a Dec. 3 tree-lighting, caroling and bench dedication at the William Allen Plaza.
Part of a $3 million renovation of the seminary's chapel, the plaza was built last year with $900,000 in state and city grants.
Where the 146-year-old seminary once gave the architectural impression of being "walled-off" from its Mount Airy community, the new plaza in front of the chapel is a "gateway" and public square, said LTSP President Philip Krey.
