Two congregations were brought together by Elizabeth Cady "Baby Elle" Pop, daughter of Stefan and Becky Pop of St. John Lutheran, Sacramento, Calif.
Elle was born with a rare, genetic disease in which the absence of the protein that holds the skin tissue together results in constant blisters and pain.
Elle died Nov. 4, but not without impacting many lives. From January to August, 22 members of St. John took turns helping the family by changing Elle's dressings, cooking meals, cleaning house, running errands and arranging play dates for her sister Chloe, 3.
When Elle was moved to Minnesota for an experimental treatment, Normandale Lutheran Church, Edina, "adopted" Elle and her family to continue the care and held a memorial service. Read the blog about Elle.
