ELCA Secretary David D. Swartling reported that as of Dec. 7, his office had been informed that 666 congregations had taken first votes to leave the denomination.
Those 666 congregations had taken a total of 700 first votes.
Of those, 481 passed and 219 failed.
Some 326 congregations had taken second votes, with one taking more than one. Of the 327 second votes, 308 passed and 19 failed.
The votes to leave came in response to the 2009 Churchwide Assembly actions on sexuality issues.
