Peace pole dedicated

Grace Lutheran Church, West Springfield, Mass., dedicated a peace pole in October.

A peace garden will be added next spring.

Grace members were joined by guests from the Islamic Society of Western Massachusetts and other neighbors.

Children of Grace and the society made peace prayer flags, decorated rocks with messages or images of peace and planted bulbs in the garden.

The Peace Pole Project began in 1955 in Japan and has resulted in more than 200,000 poles in more than 200 countries, all carrying the message: "May Peace Prevail on Earth."
