Samuel Kobia, a former general secretary of the World Council of Churches, warned that tensions in Sudan just before a Jan. 9 referendum on independence for the country's southern section could lead to mass killings and genocide.
Kobia said people in southern Sudan have been threatened and intimidated, and "these people could easily be massacred if Khartoum is not happy with how the referendum will go."
