Little Red Hen in 2010

Reminiscent of the story of the Little Red Hen, female farmers in Africa produce more than 80 percent of the continent's food supply but are most affected by hunger and lack recognition of their property rights, said Peter Prove, director of the Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance.

"Women account for 70 percent of the world's hungry and are disproportionately affected by malnutrition, poverty and food insecurity," Prove said, adding that the U.N. estimates only 5 percent of land around the globe is controlled by women.
