ELCA Secretary David D. Swartling reported that as of Nov. 3, his office had been informed that 596 congregations had taken first votes to leave the denomination.

Those 596 congregations have taken a total of 629 first votes. Of the first votes taken, 431 passed and 198 failed.

Some 308 congregations have taken second votes, with one taking more than one.

Of the total of 309 second votes, 291 passed and 18 failed.

The votes to leave came in response to the 2009 Churchwide Assembly actions on sexuality issues.
