Koran threat affects churches

Churches in India asked for support after Christian institutions were targeted in violent protests linked to the threatened burning of the Koran in the U.S.

At least 16 people were killed, and more than 60 were injured Sept. 13 after police in India-ruled Kashmir opened fire on violent mobs.

Muslim-majority Kashmir had been tense even since Terry Jones, minister of a tiny church in Florida, said he would burn copies of the Koran on Sept. 11.
