Leaders of the Protestant Christian Batak Church, a Lutheran World Federation member in Indonesia, condemned the Sept. 12 beatings and stabbings of a pastor and church members in Bekasi, outside Jakarta.
"Rev. Mother Luspida Simanjuntak, Mr. Sintua Hasian and several other church members were suddenly attacked by some unidentified men riding a motorcycle," Bishop Bonar Napitupulu and General Secretary Ramlan Hutahaean said in a Sept. 15 statement."Such actions are barbaric."
Nine people were arrested in the assault, and one member of an Islamic extremist group was reportedly being questioned in the attack.
