Metro Lutheran, an independent monthly newspaper in the Twin Cities, in early October asked readers to help keep the publication afloat.
"The newspaper's financial situation is quite dire," wrote Bob Hulteen, editor, adding that although the newspaper business isn't good, "long-term niche papers like Metro Lutheran should be fine."
However, advertising is down 13 percent from two years ago, and so far 2010 is proving worse than a difficult 2009, he said.
Hulteen said Metro Lutheran would redefine itself as a Web presence and asked for gifts.
