Orthodox Metropolitan Emmanuel of France, president of the Conference of European Churches, spoke against this trend at a July meeting of European theological faculties.

Michael Bünker, bishop of the Evangelical [Lutheran] Church of the Augsburg Confession in Austria and general secretary of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe, said, "Education provided by theological faculties is essential and complements practical ministerial training."
