Aid set for Pakistan

Summer floods in Pakistan displaced at least 1.5 million people, stranded tens of thousands, and claimed an estimated 1,500 lives.

The ACT Alliance, of which the ELCA is a member, is actively offering aid through Church World Service-Pakistan/Afghanistan.

CWS has distributed 500 food and shelter kits, with plans to dispatch more. It also plans to provide mobile health care. ELCA Disaster Response allocated $100,000 to the CWS' efforts.

"Membership in the ACT Alliance allows the ELCA to be pre-positioned to respond through a strong ecumenical connection," said Megan Bradfield, associate director, International Development and Disaster Response, ELCA Global Mission.
