All aboard

The Slovak Zion Synod assembly sailed July 8-12 from New York to St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, and back aboard the Carnival Glory cruise liner. Why an assembly aboard ship?

Correspondent Thomas Drobena reported that the costs were cheaper than a convention center.

From a spiritual view, "It just made sense for the church to be on the move in this ark of a ship, while pondering our baptism, the calm Jesus gives through the stormy seas of life, and our calling to 'get out of our own boats' for the sake of mission," he wrote.

The assembly culminated in participants being sent out and commissioned as missionaries.
