Writer Marj Leegard dies

Author, columnist and speaker Marjorie "Marj" L. Leegard, 89, died July 12.

The member of Richwood Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, Minn., wrote Give Us This Day and authored a column by the same title in Lutheran Woman Today from 1994 to 2009.

Her work also appeared in The Lutheran. "Through her writing, speaking and in conversations, Marj has consistently invited us to live in the wonder of God's grace," Mark S. Hanson, ELCA presiding bishop, wrote in a letter to her family. "Marj has taught all of us about the beauty and challenges of life in rural America. She has affirmed again and again how important rural ministries are in the [ELCA]."

She had lived on a farm in Detroit Lakes since her marriage in 1942 to Jerome Leegard. (Read her full obituary at the ELCA website. )
