Tough road for missionaries

It's hard breaking into the "closed societies" of Northern churches, Tanzanian Lutheran leader Fidon R. Mwombeki told the 2010 World Missionary Conference in June.

Mwombeki, general secretary of the Wuppertal, Germany-based United Evangelical Mission, said missionaries from the South find that "stigma against foreigners is high" and "most people in the North do not believe Southerners have a message [but] are somehow trying to take advantage of the system to get access to wealth and services ...." Yet Mwombeki said these missionaries are needed since people in the North "hunger for the gospel."
