When the city told Holy Trinity Lutheran, Minneapolis, that rainwater runoff from the church roof had to be diverted from sewer lines, members broke ground on a major landscaping project.
Three rain gardens will prevent runoff from going into the streets and reaching the Mississippi River.
The design includes educational features, a walkway and a gathering space for the community to raise awareness about protecting rivers and streams.
Funding comes from a $50,000 grant from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization and donations from members and residents.
