Inmate has micro-idea

The Church of the Damascus Road is a Western Iowa Synod congregation at the Fort Dodge and Rockwell City prisons. In a May presentation, inmates learned about synod partners, including the Igumbilo Lutheran Girls Secondary School of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania Southern Diocese.

Three days later, Thomas Tymkowicz was at Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge, as part of a work crew from the Rockwell prison.

When he discovered microscopes in the science building slated for the dumpster, he told the remodeling project supervisor how valuable they would be in the Southern Diocese. Now 24 microscopes will be refurbished and sent to the school.
