Destination: Haiti

Members of Christ (Mertz) Lutheran Church, Fleetwood, Pa., returned from a mission trip to Haiti at the time of the earthquake and began to raise funds and collect donations.

In mid-June, a truck from Food for the Poor departed with a ton of peanut butter, 10 tons of rice, and more than 200 walkers, 200 crutches, 25 wheelchairs and school supplies.

The materials made their way to Cap Haitien, Haiti.

An additional shipment of desks, chairs and file cabinets donated by a local hospital will be sent to the Village of Hope in Port au Prince for a new clinic.

Local churches, schools, service organizations and rock bands, which held a benefit concert for Haiti, joined the effort.
