Sixteen clergy from the Lower Susquehanna Synod requested a disciplinary hearing against Alan C. Wenrich, an ELCA pastor charged with soliciting sex from a woman he counseled, calling his "conduct incompatible with the character of the ministerial office."
Synod Bishop B. Penrose Hoover suspended him last year but allowed Wenrich — who underwent a county rehabilitation program for first-time, nonviolent offenders — to carry out some duties at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Harrisburg, Pa., before it closed its doors in June.
