G20 gets report card 'D' Jubilee USA network, an alliance of more than 75 religious groups that advocate debt forgiveness for impoverished countries, gave the wealthy nations Group of 20 a near-failing grade for its progress on eradicating world poverty. Reasons for the "D" grade included delivery of only $1.2 billion in new resources to poor countries (the same amount spent on security for the G20 summit) and poor progress on the U.N. Millennium Development Goals. Jubilee USA asked the G20 to cancel old debts, and, rather than provide additional help in the form of new loans, to "dramatically increase non-debt-creating" assistance. |
