Bishops describe 10 sources of congregational conflict

Ask ELCA bishops about the common illnesses that trouble congregations and the subject quickly turns to conflict. Conversations with 12 experienced synod bishops reveal 10 sources of the increased amount of congregational conflict they see.

• Sin: "How about sin? That's the core issue," says Bishop April Ulring Larson, LaCrosse Area Synod. Bishop Robert Mattheis, Sierra Pacific Synod, specifically cites "the failure to live out our baptisimal vow of forgiveness of one another."
