Ian Ellis, editor of the (Anglican) Church of Ireland Gazette, welcomed the withdrawal of a proposed TV advertisement in Northern Ireland for an abortion provider.
The region's Roman Catholic, Anglican, Presbyterian and Methodist churches opposed the ad.
The first such ad in British television, it will still run in the rest of the United Kingdom.
It "suggests that to choose an abortion is like choosing any other service or product," Ellis said.
The ad itself didn't mention the word abortion and dealt with getting advice on unplanned pregnancy.
