Hope & grief

Bishop Martin Schindehütte, foreign relations head of the Evangelical Church in Germany, said he had feelings of "joy and hope, and grief and pain" for a German Christian family kidnapped by Shiite rebels in North Yemen a year ago.

The fate of Johannes and Sabine Hentschel, who had been working at Al Jumhuri hospital in Saada, Yemen, was uncertain, and their son, Simon, 2, was believed dead. Saudi Arabian special military forces freed their two daughters, Lydia, 6, and Anna, 4.
