While Germany's Roman Catholic Church is rocked by clergy sex abuse scandals, alleged cases have also come to light in some of the country's Lutheran churches.
Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover officials are investigating five cases of alleged abuse occurring before 1985, and "deal with this as openly and as transparently as possible," said Hans-Hermann Jantzen, acting bishop.
The North Elbian Evangelical Lutheran Church said it is investigating alleged sexual abuse in Ahrensburg by a pastor who is now retired.
