Brazilian leader dies

Homero Severo Pinto, 58, senior vice president of the Evangelical Church of the Lutheran Confession in Brazil, died April 23 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, after contracting malaria in Mozambique.

Pinto was considered a possible successor to the church president, Walter Altmann, in elections this October. "Many people saw him as hope for the future of our church," Altmann said.
