First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa, Iowa, is the 2010 recipient of the ELCA's Dr. Richard Lee Peterman Good Steward Award.
Members contribute 30 percent in mission support (the financial commitment congregations give to synods and churchwide), with additional opportunities to give to ELCA World Hunger, Disaster Appeal and other ELCA ministries.
"The whole congregation serves as a witness to what the Peterman Award exemplifies, which is leadership and education in faithful stewardship," said Gloria Dovre, director for evangelical mission, Southeastern Iowa Synod, who nominated First.
