The Federal Communications Commission issued a rule that may affect some congregations.
The rule bans the use of wireless microphones or similar devices that operate in the 700 MHz band to avoid interference with fire and police.
Such devices must be tuned to another frequency or replaced.
Devices that operate outside the 700MHz band aren't affected, nor are microphones and similar devices with cords.
Violations may result in fines, confiscation of the equipment or criminal sanctions, the FCC said.
