LDR is Organization of the Year

Lutheran Disaster Response was named the 2010 "Member Organization of the Year" by National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, a coalition of nonprofits that respond to disasters and/or develop preparedness and recovery programs.

"This award is in recognition of all Lutherans who love and serve their neighbors affected by disaster," said Kevin A. Massey, director of LDR and ELCA Domestic Disaster Response.

"It also recognizes the more than 20-year history of Lutherans helping serve in communities from Grand Forks, N.D., to New Orleans and in countless other places."

This is a wonderful award and well deserved. Another reason why it matters that we continue to support the ministry of the ELCA through our general benevolence and our special offerings. I like Dr. Mark Allan Powell's phrase, which describes this well: "Duty and Delight!"
