The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod raised $56 million by April 1 for its "Fan into Flame" campaign to fund outreach and global mission ministries.
The goal, set in 2004 before the economic downturn, was $100 million.
The campaign, which runs through mid-July, has helped the LCMS place 29 missionaries in 15 countries and seven U.S. cities; construct a Lutheran seminary in Accra, Ghana; and begin building a school in Southeast Asia.
To start outreach work, each LCMS congregation and district receives back 15 percent of campaign funds they collect.
