Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Bellevue, Wash., is reviving an orchard on its property that has been dormant for more than 10 years.
The fruit from more than 30 trees (apples, pears and plums) will be donated to food banks.
The church also converted part of its lawn into a community garden, where individuals can reserve 100 square feet for $50 or 200 square feet for $75 per year.
The fees cover watering costs. Excess produce goes to the food banks.
