Each week, Melody Sell, pastor of Washingtonville [Pa.] Lutheran Church places a card in the narthex, which members sign before it goes out in Monday's mail.
The recipients? People in the community.
Members choose people who need cheering up or support due to an illness, accident, death or fire, or people who are celebrating events such as a new baby or home.
Ninety-five percent of members even write a note in the card.
