News of grant welcomed Jill Biden (center), wife of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, visits the Lutheran World Federation's Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem around the time a $5.5 million grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development was announced.
"The ELCA and its work through the Washington Office helped greatly in getting the U.S. government to pay attention," said Tawfiq Nasser (second from right), Augusta Victoria CEO. With one 6-year-old machine, he said the cancer program was vulnerable. The hospital's ministry, he added, "is how people should see us as Christians, and Palestinian success in [providing health care] contributes to peace-making." |
