India: Textbook removed

Government officials in Meghalaya, a northeastern Indian state, confiscated textbooks where the word "idol" was illustrated by an image of Jesus holding a beer can in one hand and a cigarette in the other.

The state's population is 70 percent Christian.

After parents and school authorities complained, police seized the writing and spelling texts from the St. Joseph Girl's Higher Secondary School in Shillong, Meghalaya.
