Among U.S. states, Mississippi had the highest percentage (68 percent) of weekly churchgoers in 2009, while Vermont had the lowest (23 percent), reported Gallup pollsters.
Except for Utah, the top 10 churchgoing states were in the South. Overall, 41.6 percent of Americans reported attending church at least once a week in 2009.
