Interreligious violence in Jos, Nigeria, in January left about 500 people dead.
Some reports said the violence began when Christian youth protested the building of a mosque in the Christian-majority Jos, the capital of Nigeria's Plateau State.
The violence later spread to nearby towns. In Jos, followers of both Christianity and Islam blamed gangs from the other's community.
