Children journey through Lent; students learn to serve

Looking for an idea to engage youth and their families during Lent? Or a community service project that is perfect during winter? Try these:

• KinderLent. From Ash Wednesday through Lent, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Waverly, Iowa, holds family friendly worship services on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. During the 25-minute services, parents and children participate in family led dramas, active songs, Bible stories, prayers and other creative worship ideas.

The 2009 KinderLent theme was "Journey with Jesus" and focused on the events that led Jesus to the cross. Each week children received a piece of a "Passion Puzzle" to help them continue their Lenten journey at home. Parents were given a take-home resource to help with faith discussions throughout the week.
