Religious freedom

A large majority of the world faces religious restrictions, according to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.

It based its December report on analysis of information including reports from the U.S. State Department and human rights groups as well as national constitutions.

While three-quarters of the countries affirm religious freedom in their laws or constitutions and 20 percent protect some religious practices, researchers found that only a quarter "fully respected" religious rights included in their laws.
