After Ichiro Ozawa, the second-ranking leader of Japan's ruling party, said "Christianity is an exclusive and self-righteous religion," leaders from the National Christian Council in Japan hand-delivered several gifts in December.
Ozawa received a study Bible, books on biblical verses and a letter from the council. "We hope that you will deepen your understanding of Christianity further and know that Christianity is a religion of love," the letter stated.

Mr. Ozawa is now (end of January 2010) being investigated for financial irregularities.
