South Africa: Priests killed

Last year was deadly for Roman Catholic priests in South Africa.

Four priests were murdered in separate criminal incidents.

One, Louis Blondel, 70, was shot in his home by child robbers in December.

"2009 is the worst year so far. Priests and parishioners are seen as soft targets," Southern African Catholic Bishops' Conference spokesperson Chris Townsend told the Times in Johannesburg. "We live in a sick society and not only priests are dying in this country, but many South Africans live with violence."
